Partner portalNetworking requirements
401-D2 installation includes one room control unit per guest room and one master unit per building. The master unit acts as a bridge between RCUs and the Mount Kelvin cloud.
Both the master unit and RCUs need a working local network connection via ethernet. This means an ethernet connection is required in each room, usually in the electrical cabinet of the room. Master unit placement depends on the building structure.
Devices acquire IP addresses via DHCP and no manual IP assignment is needed. All devices in a single installation must be placed in a single network, which does not filter broadcast traffic. Broadcast messages are used only for discovery purposes.
The network connection must be installed and fully functional in order to commission the system.
Master unit
Requires outbound connectivity to the internet. In a typical network, no firewall changes are necessary, but if a firewall with outbound communications restrictions is present, the following ports must be open for the Master unit.
Firewall ports
Direction | Port | Protocol | Purpose |
Outbound | 53 | UDP | DNS name resolution |
Outbound | 123 | UDP | NTP time synchronisation |
Outbound | 443 | TCP | HTTPS to cloud backend, system updates |
Room control units
Room control units do not use internet connectivity. Only a secure connection to the master unit is established.
